Holly Snell, LMSW EMDR Provider

Owner & Founder

About Me

I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the State of Michigan and certified to provide EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. My formal education and training provided me with the experience of working with a diverse population that involves individual, family, and group treatment from a range of ages between Pre-K to adulthood. I have clinical experience in the assessment and treatment of anxiety, depression, stress/anger management, relationships, emotional dysregulation, and I specialize in working with individuals and families who have experienced grief, trauma, and adjustment issues. In addition to these areas of specialty, I am passionate about empowering individuals to develop their own voice in the world and become the best version of themselves.

I recognize that change is hard and the thought of opening up to a stranger can be intimidating. For that reason, I try to create a safe and comfortable environment for you to be able to share your unique story. If you are at the point in your life where you are open and seeking change but unsure of how to implement it. I would love to be given the opportunity to work and collaborate with you. I believe that people are all born with inherent worth and destiny and at times due to life’s circumstances, people can feel incapable of reaching that destiny. I strongly value trust, honesty, and authenticity within the helping relationship. I aspire to have real and meaningful conversations with people to resolve any underlying roots and move towards growth and healing.

FAQs

Why did you become a therapist?

I am passionate about mental health and feel blessed to have a firsthand seat at witnessing how people can transform their lives. I genuinely love helping others and through the process of therapy I’ve seen how it can change people’s lives for the better while healing from trauma.

What do your clients say about you as a therapist?

I often hear that I help them articulate or put into words the complicated way they are feeling and experiencing life. The feedback I frequently receive from clients is that they feel heard, validated, and empowered to learn from their past and make informed decisions for their future.

What’s something new you’re learning or working on with clients in therapy?

I’ve recently been learning about polyvagal and the vagus nerve and how important it is to learn how to master one’s own nervous system. I find that each individual could benefit from learning and implementing more relaxation and coping skills into their daily life.

What do you do as human to manage stress or anxiety?

As a therapist, I aim to practice what I preach; therefore, I use a combination of activities such as meditation, reading, journaling, painting, coloring, crafting, dancing, singing, listening to music, time alone in nature to reflect, and spending time with my friends and family. I am a big advocate for self-care i.e., scheduled vacations, trips to the spa, mani/pedi’s, massages, and healthy boundaries!

What are your favorite book or podcast recommendations?

Therapy Style

I believe the most important aspect of therapy is trust and a mutual respectful relationship. In order to build a solid foundation, I like to start out therapy by spending time building trust and getting acquainted with each other prior to diving into anything deep. Afterwards, I prefer to work collaboratively in a non-structured format. I enjoy the spontaneity that comes as a result of freely conversing together. That doesn’t mean that the client or I don’t have an agenda or topic to discuss, it means that I like to allow space for the client to process freely what they are experiencing/feeling in which I may assist with connecting or sorting information. I liken it to an onion and how we peel back layers of the root issue. Along the way, I may suggest or teach tools that clients can use in their daily life.
